The University of Heidelberg, also known as Ruperto Carola, was founded in 1386 and is the oldest university in Germany. It is also one of Europe’s most powerful research universities. Ruprecht I, Elector Palatine, was granted permission by the Pope in 1386 to establish the university in his Heidelberg residential city. Ingen’s Netherlands scholar Marsilius became the first rector of the new university.

Campus:
